“From Stabilization to Acceleration: The Future of EMDR Therapy in Complex PTSD and Personality Pathology”

In this Workshop, Ad de Jongh will present a trauma-focused reconceptualization of personality pathology grounded in the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model.  He will demonstrate the clinical value and application of EMDR therapy with the working memory theory as the “operating system”

He will introduce empirical findings supporting intensive EMDR-based treatment for Complex PTSD and personality disorders without prolonged preparatory phases.

After attending this keynote, participants will be able to:

• Summarize the theoretical rationale for understanding CPTSD and BPD as trauma-related conditions within the AIP framework
• Evaluate evidence regarding the limited added value of stabilization phases prior to trauma processing
• Describe the structure and outcomes of brief intensive EMDR-based treatment programs in complex patient populations

Prof. Ad de Jongh, Ph.D., is an internationally recognised expert in the field of psychotraumatology, with an impressive career in scientific research, clinical practice, and professional education.

He obtained his academic degrees in dentistry (1985) and clinical psychology (1991, cum laude) at the University of Amsterdam, followed by a PhD (1995) in the field of dental phobia.  This research led him to further specialize in research into, and treatment of, trauma-related anxiety disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

He is a leading specialist in the treatment of trauma-related anxiety disorders, including (complex) PTSD.  He has played a crucial role in the development and dissemination of EMDR therapy in the Netherlands and abroad.  Since the introduction of EMDR in the Netherlands in 1993, he has contributed to the scientific substantiation and implementation of this therapy as an evidence-based treatment method for psychotrauma.
