EMDR Europe Virtual Conference 2021
Due to Covid-19 the original conference has to be moved to an online event.
Virtual EMDR UK Conference and AGM Friday 12th June & Saturday 13th June 2020
I am pleased to announce that EMDR UK National Conference & AGM has been converted to a virtual event.
The conference will be professionally live-streamed and recorded. Delegates will have the opportunity to join the conference live and also access a recording of the event, additionally pre-recorded conference symposiums and C&A specialist workshops will be offered for viewing; all recordings will be available for a period of 28 days post conference.
The programme will be an enhanced version of the Cardiff 2020 programme in that as well as our scheduled main keynote and workshop presenters, Arne Hofmann, Ad de Jongh, Suzy Matthijssen and Rolf Carriere, we are also delighted to welcome Maria Lehnung, Isabel Fernandez, Sonny Provetto and Ignacio Jarero.
We have commissioned an IT technician specialising in webcast conferences to professionally design and manage the event. The platform used is entirely web based which means delegates require only a good Internet connection to view the conference from any device. The technician will support, enable and monitor delegate access to the conference and provide a report to the conference committee. CPD certificates will be circulated following the report.
Please note in the event of any financial surplus from the conference it will be allocated to support EMDR and other charities conducting scientific research into the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We look forward to welcoming you to the virtual conference – the programme and booking link will be circulated within the next 7 days.
Keep safe and well.

Workshop Aims:
1) Provide information that helps distinguish acute trauma from attachment and developmental trauma.
2) Help integrate attachment perspective into EMDR-AIP based intervention.
3) Understand how attachment and developmental trauma can hinder or block processing and how to work through these problems with specific interventions.
4) Present the modifications and particularities we have to take in account in the standard protocol when dealing with attachment trauma patients.
5) Discuss specific interventions with these patients at an individual and couple level.
Learning Outcomes: Provide participants with a framework to understand attachment and developmental trauma through the EMDR-AIP lens and help them adapt their EMDR case conceptualization and intervention to the specific needs of these complex patients for processing.
We look forward to seeing you in January at this event. Please support these local events which we put on at low cost to further EMDR training and development. We can only do this if they are well supported.

Kent Regional Group Spring Workshop
EMDR and Peri-Natal Trauma
Saturday 18th May 2019
Venue: The Abode Hotel, 30-33 High Street, Canterbury, Kent CT1 2RX
Workshop Hosted by Lynn Keenan – EMDR Consultant, Facilitator and Trainer in Training – Lynn has presented her work on Peri-Natal trauma at National, European and International conferences including, Glasgow, London, Liverpool, Paris, Hamburg and Bali.
6 CPD Points have been awarded
About 30,000 women a year, according to the most recent research, experience birth trauma in the UK. Instead of being joyful and happy, the experience of giving birth has been frightening. Having a traumatic childbirth and developing PTSD can impair the Mother’s relationship with both her baby and her partner. Mothers may feel acute disappointment that childbirth was not the experience they were hoping for and may feel angry with the medical staff if they felt that the delivery wasn’t handled well. Often Mothers receive a diagnosis of Post-Natal Depression (PND) which doesn’t seem to fit and the treatment pathways for PND and PTSD are very different.
In this workshop Lynn will share her experiences of working with Peri-Natal trauma whilst managing the Primary Care Mental Health service, working closely with both the local Obstetric and Health visiting teams in order to promote awareness of Peri-Natal trauma and its consequences. This led to developing clearer pathways for service users within the area who were identified as requiring psychological input before and after giving birth.
The cost of the day workshop is £90 for the EMDR Association members and £105 for non-members (includes refreshments and lunch)

UNDERSTANDING AND DEALING WITH STRESS AND TRAUMA IN FIRST RESPONDERS
International Guest: Salvatore Provetto, MSW, LICSW
Date: Wednesday 8th of May Venue: Ulster Reform Club, Belfast
CPD points pending
Abstract: First responders (either in public, private or voluntary sector) and law enforcement personnel are a different kind of population. They face danger with courage, tragedy with hope, and are willing to risk their own lives to save another. During their working shifts, which sometime can be more then 12 hours, they can be exposed to repeated traumas, which is different than what the public typically experiences. Because of this unique exposure, we must look at how we treat them for their trauma. As a former police officer and a trauma-focused therapist, Sonny’s goal is to help you integrate these experiences into who you are so you can live a happy, healthy, and meaningful life. While we can’t change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life.
Learning outcomes
How Trauma Happens: Trauma through the lens of an emergency responder. Why is Understanding trauma important to you and your agency. • Impact of Trauma on memory; • Impact of Trauma on Morale; • Impact of Trauma on Retention. How to treat Trauma: Best practices for Building Resiliency.
Presenter:
Salvatore (Sonny) Provetto MSW, LICSW is an EMDR clinician and a trauma consultant for police departments and emergency responders in Northern Vermont. His experiences as a police officer and emergency mental health clinician have guided his clinical practice with first responders for more than 17 years. Sonny consults on issues of stress and trauma with police officers, firefighters, emergency responders and their organizations. He works closely with 10 Vermont police departments including the Vermont State Police and the Vermont Department of Children and Families. Recently, Sonny testified for the Vermont legislature as a subject matter expert on PTSD and influenced legislation making Vermont the first state to recognize PTSD as a compensable work-related injury for first responders. It was through his understanding of EMDR Therapy (one of the gold-standard trauma-focused psychotherapies) and its efficacy that the legislature saw the value of treating first responders immediately after traumatic events. Sonny is the recipient of the 2018 EMDRIA Advocacy Award from the EMDR International Association, for his outstanding work done through Vermont Centre for Responder Wellness.
